Sir George Etherege, [etherij]Restoration playwright, probably born in Maidenhead, South England, UK. His three plays, The Comical Revenge; Or, Love in a Tub (1664); She Would if She Could (1668); and The Man of Mode; or, Sir Fopling Flutter (1676), were highly popular in their day, and introduced the comedy of manners to the English theatre.
